I’m Sharon Buchanan, Acting General Manager for Group Procurement at FB.

I’ve worked in manufacturing and procurement for the majority of my career, and have been with FB for six years. I relocated from the UK to New Zealand in December 2013.

My on-going focus is driving value from the ~$1bn we spend annually on indirect procurement, including professional services, temp labour, engineering services, ICT, utilities, vehicles, MRO, travel and fuel.

In my experience, not many companies can offer procurement professionals the opportunities and exposure to different industries to advance their career that you can find at FB.  We have a great track record of developing our people and fantastic plans for training and development to take our team to the next level. 

We embrace diversity in all respects and believe that thought diversity in an organisation will drive growth, that comes from all of us looking to raise the bar and do things better.  This for me is part of the excitement of what we are trying to create with this project and why we are so interested in attracting a diverse range of candidates to our business and to New Zealand.

New Zealand is a beautiful country with so much to offer, great beaches, walks a fantastic place to live especially if you enjoy being outdoors with  an added bonus of having a great climate most of the year.





I’m Jonty Crane, Transformation Manager for Group Functions as part of the Accelerate transformation programme.

I’ve been involved with procurement at FB for three years, from the establishment of the Group Procurement function back in 2013 which centralised procurement of indirects, to the recent transition to a business partner model for procurement covering all categories and divisions across FB. My role in the Accelerate programme is to support / challenge the business around how we can do things better, understanding the key enablers required, and constraints to address.

On the personal side of things work brought me to New Zealand from the UK six years ago, and I liked it so much I stayed. The lifestyle is hard to beat, with a great combination in Auckland of everything you need from a city, with easy access to nature, from black sand surf beaches, to extinct volcanic cones, to barely habited islands a short ferry ride away, and the South Island and Pacific Islands are only a flight away. I’ve been writing about New Zealand online for the past couple of years, there’s plenty of places to explore.

In terms of the New Zealand work culture it’s more informal than most places, with flatter organisational structures, and easier networking opportunities in many ways given the smaller population. It is quite a unique procurement environment, with 97% of businesses employing 19 or fewer staff, meaning that relationships are key. Excellent engagement with the business and suppliers is important to succeed here, and taking the time to understand how the supply market works. Procurement can be more interesting here than in mature markets, with greater opportunities for disruption through innovative thinking.





I’m Todd Gregory, FB Procurement Manager – ICT and I have been working for FB since April 2015. 

In my role, I work closely with our Group Technology team to help drive outstanding value from our ICT vendor relationships.

I believe that the Fletcher Building Group Technology and Procurement teams employ some of the most capable people in their respective industries and when coupled with the significant technology transformations being invested in across the group, it makes being part of the team very exciting.

Being a born and bred Kiwi, I love living and working in New Zealand. I have travelled extensively around the globe but with New Zealand offering a quality of life that is second to none, it’s a tough place to leave. Fletcher Building also has a great mix of international and local talent so diversity is inherent to how we operate.

Development has been a key focus of mine and Fletcher Building have very supportive in helping me progress through the CIPS diploma framework as well as providing seemingly unlimited opportunities to practice and refine my craft. Working at Fletcher Building is challenging, interesting, and full of opportunities to progress your career.





I’m Penny Birch, Group Procurement Coordinator and Contract Support Officer at FB.

I joined the team at FB Procurement around 18 months ago as part of the FB Young Talent Graduate Programme. During that time I have contributed to, and led, many different procurement initiatives in categories such as health and safety, marketing and professional services. I have also supported the team through reviewing, drafting and negotiating a range of different contracts to ensure we are striving for the right outcome.

I have a legal background, and have found procurement to be a great fit for my interests in commercial and contract law. My role has developed in pace with my skills, so that bigger and more challenging projects have come my way. I have found in FB that if you show an interest and aptitude for challenge, FB will reward it and help you grow.

FB has actively invested in my personal and professional development. I have undertaken both formal training to advance my legal and procurement education, and professional skills-based workshops for negotiating, communicating and presenting effectively. I have had the opportunity to work with fantastic teams of experienced professionals throughout FB, who have been generous with sharing their knowledge, experience and time.





I’m Ben Noone, and I’ve been with Fletcher Building Procurement for a year and a half.

During this time, I’ve been involved in a vast array of projects, both internationally and domestically, including the establishment, set up and operations of our Low Cost Country Sourcing Office based out of Shanghai.

The work has been exciting and challenging, and has taken me across New Zealand, Australia, and large parts of Asia. I’ve learned a great deal about conducting business in differing countries with differing cultures, and have found that this understanding has allowed me to quickly grow in the procurement profession.  

As well as many amazing work opportunities Fletcher Building has been supportive of personal and professional development. I have been given the opportunity to undertake public speaking/ presentation skills training, negotiation training, CIPS study support and a Project Management course.

Fletcher Building Procurement has provided me with a great platform to be challenged and excel on, it has been supportive of development and study, and has been an enjoyable place to work alongside some fun and talented individuals. 






I'm Fiona Nissen FCIPS, Procurement Excellence Manager at FB.

I have the best job title! I’ve been at Fletcher Building for 3 years and my role is all about supporting FB Procurement gurus though system, tools, policy & process.

Working at FB means I get visibility to all sorts of business models and the passion people have to make sure their business is a success is really inspirational. Fletcher Building is a complex business; loads of change happens at FB and we have to be ready to adapt to the change at any time. But it’s really exciting seeing the benefits delivered and the impact we can make to be Better Every Day.

In the procurement team we work hard and laugh about silly things. We help each other and try to beat each other in competitive activities. We get out and about as often as we can. One day we can be presenting to the Executive for a project approval, the next day we are in PPE looking at how we make our specialised wallboard product, Gib.

I really enjoy working at FB with the different parts of the business, challenging projects and the ability to be part of team that is evolving into an ambitiously successful team.
